Dorking A vs Guildford

27/4/2013

The last game of the season and everyone was feeling good after finding out we had won the Surrey League Division 2 and will be promoted to Division 1 next season. However in the Kingston League, only 2 points separate 2nd place and 3rd place so we knew we had to win. We started the game well; with everyone working hard to defend down the court to get has many turnovers as possible. Rebecca made some amazing long passes into Nicky who held her space well in the circle against a tough defence. Tina was offering for every ball, getting free from the GD (an ex- member of the club, Lucy!) and finishing it off with great shooting. At half time we were only leading by 3. There was lots of communication in the defensive circle between Kim and Emily. They were able to stop Guildford making the easy passes into the circle, causing the umpire to call ‘held ball’. Chloe cleverly blocked the GA out of the circle and made many interceptions down the court, creating a lot of pressure for the opposition. Louisa did not stop running throughout the game and kept the ball moving fast down the court, picking out the simple yet effective passes. The game was tight all the way to the last minute; however a big burst of energy from everyone at the end of the gamevmeant that Dorking A won 48-43. A big congratulations to Louisa for getting player of the match and well done to all the players for a hard but great season! We now need to wait for the rest of Saturday’s results to find out if we have a second promotion, fingers crossed!

Whitton B vs Dorking A

25/4/2013

Right from the starting whistle we knew this indoor game would be a fast, tough one. Kim and Ailsa worked extremely well together in the defending circle, switching and zoning different area’s to stop the shooters. In the shooting circle, Lee was up against a tall GK but she was on form with her shooting. After losing the first half 17-19, we started to get lots of turn-overs thanks to lots of interceptions from the defence, especially Rosanna at WD. In the last quarter, we all found more energy for one last push. Louisa and Tina worked well together feeding the ball into the circle, whilst Nicky made sure every shot count. After one of the best quarter’s we have ever played, the game ended 35-47 to Dorking and congratulations to Nicky for getting player of the match.

Dorking A v Grasshoppers B

20/4/2013

After a mid-week defeat, we came on the court determined to get a win. Nicky wasn't missing in the first quarter and was soon the 'ham in the sandwich' between the two defence. Kim stopped the GS holding her space, causing her to shoot from further out, whilst Emily successfully got many interceptions from leaping metres of the ground! At half time, we were winning by 4. Grasshoppers were good at stopping the ball moving fast down mid-court, however Louisa's constant offering helped the ball get to Tina who had lots of space to score lots of goals! Becca's great positioning around the edge of the circle helped the shooters to get into their preferred shooting positions. After playing the B game before, Laura did well blocking the GA out of the circle and even found enough energy to get free down the court. In the last quarter, fatigue started kicking in but we held onto the lead and won 47-45. A great team effort by Dorking and congratulations to Nicky who got player of the match.

The Downs v Dorking A

18/4/2013

This re-arranged mid-week match against a strong Downs side meant that Ciara and Bex were able to make a comeback. After not playing for a few months they both played amazingly well in defence. We started off strong after winning the first quarter, with the help of Emily and Louisa working the ball well down the court. The Downs came out much stronger in second half, however Becca's feeds into the circle were accurate and well-placed. Kim and Nicky worked hard in the circle, against a very tall and pressurising defence. Soon little mistakes led to The Downs decreasing the lead we worked so hard to create. Unfortunately we lost 40-35, but congratulations to Ciara for getting player of the match.

Dorking C vs Hampton C

13/4/2013

Dorking made a strong start to their final match of the season. Tight defence by Jess Hillson, Sarah Barton and Frances Arnold meant that Dorking forced Hampton to fight hard to keep up with them in the first quarter of the match.  Good movement and strong shooting by both Sarah Binns and Alison Evans within the attacking third created opportunity for the home team to match Hampton goal for goal.

The long break since their last match took its toll on Dorking and in the second quarter they allowed Hampton to creep ahead. Despite a couple of lovely interceptions in the centre and defending thirds by Victoria May, playing as centre, and some strong passing into the circle by Laura Hillson, Dorking were not able to make up the lead that Hampton had gained in the third quarter. Hampton  were able to make the most of the unforced errors of Dorking and capitalised on their lead in the second half. Although Dorking had some moments of brilliance, and worked hard throughout the match, Hampton finally won 31-21.

Player of the match was Sarah Binns, playing GA.

Fetcham A vs Dorking A

13/4/2013

Similar to last week the game was very close, with both teams taking advantage of the many turn-overs. Louisa as C and Becca as WA worked well together, covering the court and used fast, accurate passes into the circle. Emily and Rosanna pressurised Fetcham with excellent defending, causing them to make many mistakes. At half time we were only winning by 2 and went into the 2nd half determined to increase the lead. Nicky and Tina used small quick passing around the shooting circle in order to get into the best position to shoot. Ailsa successfully stopped the GS from getting rebounds and made some amazing interceptions. After another great last quarter, the game ended 36-43 to Dorking and congratulations to Nicky for getting player of the match.

Dorking B vs Fetcham Hawks

6/4/2013

It was great to see Brittany return after a spell out with broken nose. The match started slowly, Brittany and Laura were shooting found it difficult to convert goals. Some changes were made at half time with Chloe and Brittany shooting, Laura going down to defend with Jess, and Lydia going wing attack. This seemed to make a difference. It was  good, but tough game. Final score 49-31.
